Youth Ministry Remodel for 2014-15 School Year
The mission statement of the United Methodist Church is: “To make disciples for Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world,” and Sunnycrest UMC’s plan for doing so is Worship, Transform and Serve. Therefore the purpose for the remodel of our Youth Ministry program is to be more intentional in our discipleship process (follow Jesus’ plan for making disciples…hang out and eat/teach to large groups/go deeper with a small group).
The Sunnycrest Youth Council has been and will continue to work on a new plan /structure for our youth ministry program going forward. It is our goal to make disciples of Jesus Christ, and to do so more intentionally and more deeply. Each youth is at a slightly different place on their faith journey, so it is imperative that we are providing places for those who aren’t sure about God, those who are new believers and those who are ready to grow deeper in faith. To begin to make these goals a reality, the schedule next fall will look different and include more opportunities for youth to lead, serve, and study. The traditional elements of fun, fellowship and teaching will still be included.
Any questions please don’t hesitate to ask Pastor Kris! firstname.lastname@example.org
The Fall Schedule for a Regular Wednesday Youth Night will look like this:
5:40pm Hang out/Youth group Games
A place for those kids who want to play games (not everyone is into this);
Supervised (every time) and organized most of the time; All grades invited
Everyone eats together; provides needed hang out/fellowship time; All grades invited
6:30pm Worship/large group teaching
Build a youth band; include announcements and opportunities; worship together;
opportunity to do the large group teaching like we do now (mini sermon, videos, object
lessons etc.); at the end invite everyone to join a small group for more study or be
Dismissed to head home if not in a small group
7:15 pm Move into small groups
For those youth looking to dig deeper, spend extra time discussing the topic and the Bible; get to know other adults from the church; pray with one another; grow closer; Middle School and High School divided into age groups for this portion; expectation is that you join a small group and commit to being in that same small group all semester
concluding at 8pm
