Sunnycrest UMC has a rich history that started in 1923. We began as the Evangelical Church of Sioux Falls and, through the years, we have followed the changes in our denomination. Next we became the Evangelical United Brethren Church, then Sunnycrest Evangelical Brethren Church (1964) and finally, in the 1968 merger of denominations, we became known as Sunnycrest United Methodist Church.
Worship. Serve. Transform. These three words sum up the purpose statement and mission of our church: to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. All areas of Sunnycrest strive to fulfill at least one aspect of our mission statement. In addition to being actively involved in both world missions and ministries in our community, we are deeply invested in the spiritual growth of the children, youth and adults of Sunnycrest as we seek to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
We love visitors of all ages and joyfully welcome children, families, youth, singles, retirees and all others to worship with us on Sunday morning. The word of Jesus is always preached at Sunnycrest and no matter what your worship style—beautifully crafted traditional hymns or electric guitars with fast-paced contemporary music—you’re sure to find something here. We encourage you to come as you are and dress however you feel comfortable. We’re excited to meet you and would love to see you at our next Sunday morning service.
